Brasilia Brazil

Brasilia, the young capital city of Brazil, was created to promote the occupancy of Brazilian Highlands. In 1956, the then president Juscelino Kubitschek started building the capital and in 21st April of 1960 Brasilia was inaugurated. Brasilia was designed by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer, two of the most respected Brazilian architects. Since 1987, Brasilia is listed in UNESCO's Mankind's World Heritage Site. It's the largest urban area covered by this list.Brasilia has the shape of an airplane, the South and North Wings are the residential areas and the cockpit is where the Government buildings are located. On the Square of the Three Powers, you will find the Congresso Nacional, the city’s most famous building complex and Oscar Niemeyer’s personal masterpiece. Around the square you will also find the Palacio do Planalto, the City Museum, the Supremo Tribunal Federal, the Nation’s Pantheon and the Lucio Costa Hall. The Department of Justice and the Itamaraty Palace are located nearby and are also part of the Terrace of Ministries. The Palacio Da Alvorada was one of the first structures to be built in the city and is located on an artificial lake. Brasilia’s Cathedral is not your typical cathedral, but nonetheless, worth a visit. Brasilia is an excellent destination for art and architecture lovers, it is in fact an ode to Brazilian modernity.
