Ilheus Brazil

Ilhéus is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Bahia. It is the most extensive city of the coast between the Bahian municipalities. It is considered the capital of cocoa and the capital of the "Princesinha do Sul". Its economy is based on agriculture, tourism and industries. It was the first producer of cocoa in the world until the disease known as "witch's broom" infected the plantations, significantly reducing production. Ilhéus was founded in 1536 and achieved the category of city in 1881. It is known worldwide for setting the novels of Jorge Amado, famous Bahian writer, such as Gabriela, Clavo and Canela. Also known as "IOS", which stands for the old script of the name of the city, São Jorge dos Ilhéos, which is used in plane tickets. It owns the "Jorge Amado Airport", which is the gateway for very required destinations such as Itacaré, Barra Grande, Canavieiras, Ilha de Comandatuba and the city of Ilhéus itself.
